Aditives to avoid water frezzing.

On a closed water circuit.
What it the best suited aditive to avoid water frezzing
I need to lower the frezzing point to -5°C .
Use :industrial cooling.

A water freezing point depression of 5[sup]o[/sup]C could be attained by the addition of a variety of chemicals: 14% mass ethylene glycol, 11% mass ethanol, 9% mass calcium chloride, 8% mass sodium chloride, 19% mass glycerol, to name just a few. In order to obtain other properties of these solutions, consult the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics.
 
Ethylene glycol is probably your best choice from terms of permanence, easy availability, and non-corrosivity. However corrosion inhibitors should be included -- similar to retail supplies of automobile antifreeze. Use of Ethylene glycol will require special provision for spill containment to avoid contamination of storm runoff etc. Ethyl alcohol is also easily available and non-corrosive, but it will evaporate over time and thusly lose its effectiveness. Salt brines could be a problem from corrosion perspective.
 
keep in mind the maximum temperature occurring in your cycle. check if the additive is suited for both, minimum and maximum temperature. just a tiny reminder.
