My shop is building a hydrostatic test bunker for pressure testing compressor cylinders. We are planning to install a high pressure pump (Brand: Haskel) for this purpose. As a safety regulation we need to have a pressure relief valve installed on the cylinder.

We test cylinders at pressures varying from 500 to 5000psi, so I was wondering if there are any adjustable/variable pressure relief valves which I can use. For e.g. if I am testing a cylinder at 1500psi, I want to be able to set the relief valve at about 1510 psi or so.

Thanks for your help folks.

I have never heard of an adjustible relief device with that wide a diffence. You will require valves for each pressure you test at.

Thanks for your response, I guess I'd stick to your suggestion but, I got 20 to 30 different testing pressures. I am wondering if there is any other way (a auxiliary setup) of doing this...

But thanks anyway. I thot I would never get a response. :)

Rather than getting the shop to reset and pop test an RV each time, how about a stash of 20 - 30 bursting disc set pressures? Fit the correct one for your desired pressure.

As an alternative, a hardwired high pressure shutdown system for the pump, if that is your only source of pressure. A SIL assessment to demonstrate that the trip is of higher reliability than a relief valve. My greatest worry would be human error in setting the shutdown pressure for each test, but you would have the same potential issue with re-setting an RV each time.
