Advanced BIM tool for the design of HVAC systems for buildings

Hi,

I'm new here, but i'm visiting this forum for a year ago.
It's very good forum with a lots of informations and calculations.

I'm in HVAC for a 3 years now and my company are going to BIM design, not 2D in AutoCAD anymore.
So, i'm looking for quality BIM tool for the design of HVAC for buildings.
Well, i need a tool to start with calculation of thermal loads for heating and cooling to calculation and drawing systems for heating, cooling and ventilation.
What's your experience and recommendation which tool to choose... it's AX3000, Data Design System (DDS-Nemetschek), MagiCAD or something else?

What about Revit? I havent used it but as far as I know it gives calculations as well as modelling in 3d.

I know for Revit and I'll check how it works.
Waiting for someone's experience in other tools.
 
Possibly I'm speaking out of turn but I think you will find the majority of people on this forum (and generally) utilize Revit for 3D modeling. Revit has (for better or worse) become a widely adapted standard across much of the architecture and MEP industry in North America and Europe.

You may not get many responses back about other platforms
 
I highly recommend Revit. I've used Bentley Building (though several years ago) and Revit has been a far better experience. Industry also supports Revit (I am able to obtain families from many of the companies on which I base my designs).

I'm with a Revit group now, and based on what I'm seeing in the US, you'd better do Revit if you want to work with architects... It may be different where you are, so my advice is to check with your client base first before shelling out money on something that won't integrate with their BIM system.

I would concur with what everyone is saying out here. Revit is slowly becoming a standard program for design at least, not sure how far it is being used to do load calculations.
 
It depends what do you mean by "design". For many architects, design=drafting, but not for HVAC engineers.

Revit will likely replace Autocad in terms of drafting, completely. For calculations, Revit is a sham currently.

Many calculation software now has direct link or interface with revit: Cymap and even HAP, assumably Hevacomp.

AX-3000 works with Autocad only, I beleive.

So if you want complete HVAC design solution, you need Cymap/HAP/Hevacomp plus Revit.
