I am curently looking for a new 11 x 17 B/W printer for our design department. We are presently using a Canon BJ 230 B/W that we have had for years and it is starting to slowly give up the ghost.
All of the printers on the market are colour and print between 4 to 12 pages per minute. We have a HP 1220C that will print 11 ppm but when set to fast printing the line quality is not very good
Does anyone know of a printer that is affordable and still good quality with semi high volume?

How about a HP LaserJet 5 or 5si? I don't know the cost, but a laser is going to get you fast ppm. The 5 series does A & B size prints.

The HP 5000 series is great, but expect to pay about $2000 (maybe as low as $14-1500 if you shop hard and don't need any options).

I bought a Minolta Pageworks 20N (network print server included) a couple of years ago for less than $1000. It has the same quality and speed as the HP, for a lot less money. Consider it as another option.

Good luck!
