Again about Vertcal Componet of earthquake.

When an earthquake occure source of waves is unique and at first one wave has propagated but when equipments register the vibrations the vertical and horizental component of it the characters of them such as frequence content, peaks and etc. are very different! I think should be same but they aren't! please guide me.

Wave propagation through a single material in a single direction is one thing (subject of many textbooks) and wave travel through an anisotropic material in three dimensions is quite another - usually found in texts on seismology. There are many factors, including the nature of the faulting mechanism, that will determine the character of the waves arriving at one location. Furthermore these waves bounce off many different boundaries in the earth's interior and are quite mixed when they arrive at the sensor location. Other factors include but are not limited to the material properties of the earth, wave speed, wave type and as mentioned above boundaries. For more information on the nature and character of wave propagation within the earth I suggest that you check out a seismology text at the library.
