How is the aggregate building area determined with respect to MAQs?

What code are you following? ICC, NFPA?

Are you referring to a specific occupancy/application?

Let's assume H occupancies per IBC, see for example 507.8.1

See also section 414.2 (assuming you 're applying IBC) for limitations about control areas and MAQs which do not impose limitations about there size. Hopefully I have not overlooked something here but control areas and MAQs are based on the concept of limiting the hazard by quantities.
