We just purchased an Amada 2415 and plan on cutting sheet metal at thicknesses up to .125 both steel and stainless. What cfm and psi requirements would be needed in purchasing and air compressor for the shop to accomplish this? Thanks for any response, Aqua Delta

I need air for the laser at 80 psi, and the dust collector at 80 psi. What ever is left I hope to have enough air for cutting sheetmetal up to .125 thick with assist air instead of nitrogen or oxygen. The rest of the shop has a separate compressor for everything else. The compressor I want to buy should handle the above 3 things only.

Cutting steel with shop does not work very well. It's possible but there is always dross on the backside.

The only time I have seen it work okay was with 200psi. That requires a big compressor.

The quick answer is 10cfm for the machine, 10 for the dust collector, 15cfm for cutting. 10 hp on the low side, 20 would be better.

I have a customer who uses only air to cut all materials upto 10mm thick. compressor is 16bar, dedicated for only laser cutting. extreme filtration to make it as clean as nitrogen and moisture sensors that shut down the laser source if there is any moisture detected inside the air.

This is on LVD 3kw Electra.

yo have to have a kick ass compressor and cheap electricity. that air goes by your lens so it has to be really clean. and as mentioned 200 psi at the head through a 2 or 3 mm nozzle. Add some membrane filters and you can make your own N2.
