Looking at standards for Air extractors and Air separators.
I am bit confused at what the differance is between the 2 processes.

What they mean exactly might depend on the particular process in which you are employing these devices. Air extractor I would expect to extract air from something or somewhere, such as from an electric steel making furnace, or perhaps from a restaraunt's kitchen. An air separator I would normally expect to separate air from some other material, such as water, or oil, etc. but then again, it might be referring to separating air into nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, argon and any or all of its other constituants.
