I work in a fiberglass plant. We want to supply 100 ft/min air flow over an operator. How do I go from flow rates out of ducting (10-20 feet away) to air speed in an open space? We do have intake ducts for the "dirty" air to be collected.

-Thanks,
Brad

If you are using a diffuser of some kind to distribute the air towards the worker, most diffusers have 'throw' ratings. Essentially the rating tells you at what distance the air stream has a velocity of 50, 100 and 150 feet/min. In essence what you do is then select a diffuser with a 'throw' that is greater than 10-20 feet at the 100 ft/min rating.

Check out EH Price's website:

I'm betting their HCD Diffuser is what you'll be looking for.
