Air regulator needed for shop air?

Hi all,

I am setting up a pneumatic actuator system for the first time and there's shop air that I would like to pull from. It seems like shop air is typically 125psi +, but my actuators can only take 100psi max. Am I good to just slap an air pressure regulator and run my system?

Thanks

You need to size regulators for the individual actuators

or buy a single regulator that can handle all of them and put it downstream of the compressor assuming that your line size can handle the lower pressure and deliver the demand.

Or change the air compressor setting to 90#, assuming that the line sizes can handle it.

Check local code and actuator manual/warranty for any over pressure protection requirements and add if necessary.

Anytime you have a regulator feeding a system that has a lower rating than the source pressure you must put a relief valve in. Regulators fail in the open position so any fault with the regulator will cause your low pressure system to over pressurize.

Basically yes as noted above. But check the dewpoint required by your actuators and oil content and then make sure your supply complies.

"Shop air" is rather vague...
