Aligning viewport contents. 1

Hello, new to DraftSight.

I'm looking for a way to align viewport contents (without moving model itself) to an external infinite line. Is it possible to "pan" the contents of a viewport to a specific point/line that is drawn outside the viewport content?

Simple example in the attachment.
Cheers!

Generally I would make my viewport larger than required in order to align the point, then shrink the viewport back down after alignment. Resizing a viewport should not move the geometry inside unless you move the viewport.

Thanks for answer, I get the concept but lack the execution. The part where you align the content of a viewport to anything else I do not understand. The only way I know to move the content of a viewport (without moving the model) is to use the middle mouse button (default option) - It seems I would need a command to move it in context to another object (outside the viewport).

Could you please elaborate on the topic and/or attach a simple example?

Cheers.

Honestly it's tough to describe. Perhaps if you describe what exactly you're trying to line up.

Essentially it comes down to, your viewports (any ones you're trying to align) need to be sized large enough to see the alignment location. Then you move the viewports. You can move a viewport using a location inside the viewport, without entering the viewport. (Wow, that's a mouthful). When it asks you for the origin of the move, select the alignment point in one viewport. When it asks the destination, select the alignment location in the other viewport. Repeat as necessary.

Maybe I'm missing something and you are already doing this, but you can just double click inside the viewport box to adjust the size and position of the model in relation to the viewport itself.
The actual commands are "modelmode" and "sheetmode" if you prefer to type them out or if you get stuck.
