hi all

How do we determine the allowable stress values (i.e allowable stress for shear, bending & bearing) for SA325 bolting being used at 550F. ASME Sec. II D gives yield stress of 81 ksi and allowable stress 23000 psi but i am not sure about the exact figure. these bolts are used in bed support.
Thanks

PVdesigner,
I'm not sure which ASME II-D are you using, but mine shows a lot more details than yours. The allowable stress for SA 325 is constant 20.2 ksi up to 650F and the yield is 55.95 ksi at 550F (interpolated for 54.6 at 600F and 57.3 at 500F)(refer pages 350, 584 and 585 of ASME II Part D, 2007 edition).
cheers,

Please read ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section II, Introduction.

Thanks gr2vessels

I have been able to figure out the correct value of yield strength. Thanks to you all
