Allowable Bearing stress - High tensile pin

Hi

Any ideas on where to find allowable bearing stress for a greased 4340 (high-tensile) pin in a 4340 bush. Pin rotates under load. We would normally use 80-100 Mpa allowable for mild steel components but are there any published allowables for higher tensile components.

These are the published ratings for allowable stress. You can increase these values based on how many cycles pin rotates under load. I believe there are published values in one of the AGMA standards what stress level you can increased to depending on numer of cycles.

Is the concern wear rate ?

Tmoose Yes, wear rate would be a factor as its in a component which you wouldn't want to replace frequently. Also avoiding seizing if lubrication is non-optimal.

Could you use a tension bushing like shown in the links below. You can calculate the proper one of you can get the manufacturer to do the evaluation.
