I am looking for discrete relays that are equivalent to the Alstom MVTU under/over voltage and neutral displacement, MVAG under/over voltage, MFVU21 over and under frequency and MVTT static time delay series of relays. I don't want the replacement highly integrated units quoted by Areva (who bought out Alstom).

Where are you located?

Alstom still have some branches which sell Alstom relays. Some countries with Alstom branches (which I am aware of) are South Africa, Australia and India. The guys in South Africa helped me a lot to replace some of their older relays. Their site is:

If you are not successful, I can supply you with the E-mail address of one of their protection guys.

I am UK based.

I have contacted Areva (Alstom) who tell me that although the production of some of the relays quoted will have production transferred to India some will be dropped altogether.

I wanted descrete relays as it gives me a systems designer more scope and more control over the schemes I design.

I'm assuming Areva offered you P922 relays.

If you want to keep things discrete you could use the P921 for voltage and P922 for frequency.

The cost of the newer relays is often lower than the older discrete relays so it probably wont cost you any more than you were planning to spend.

I believe the MVTT14 relay is still available. However assuming you have used the integrated timers of the MVTU & MFVU relays in the past, the timers of the P921/P922 relays would suffice.

Another alternative to the companies mentioned by RalphChristie is RMS. They have discrete voltage, frequency and timer relays. Although I am not sure about neutral voltage displacement.

The website is
In the UK you can get their relays through Reyrolle.

The ABB electromechanical division manufactures discrete protective relays in all the functions you mention.
