I am looking for a sheet metal shear wall system similar to the Sure Board wall system that has 18 gauge sheet metal. Sure Board only offers their system with 22 gauge sheet metal. Does anyone know if 18 gauge sheet metal glued to gypsum sheathing is available?

Simpson makes steel strongwall shear panels, but it is of bent 10 gage plate - looking more like sheet piling than flat plate. I see not reason that GSB could not be attached to it though. Check it out at

Here are 4 options:

You can look into cold formed steel walls:
Hardy Braces and Hardy Panels are also an option

You can look into this, but it may be harder to get past building officials (metal deck shear walls):

You can also look into a steel plate shear wall system, which will cut down on the length of your shear walls, but there are issues with getting large loads through a wood drag or through the diaphragm. detailing is key. I've seen the SPSW system used in combination with wood framing in the bay area.

I actually found out sure board does have 18ga sheet metal attached to gyp board. It seems like the advantage with sure board is that it meets the impact resistance that I need (HM), and the large shear loads. Is there another provider that has a sure board type system? It looks like that system will be the easiest to install and I can use one system for impact resistance and shear loads, but sure-board is expensive considering the basic system that it is.
