I must be losing my mind here but I swore that I read somewhere that an auxiliary view could be created along the selected edge rather than normal to the selected edge using a certain key stroke (ctrl, alt, etc.). I know that I can create a sketch line normal to the edge and create the auxiliary view from that.

Did I dream this or has someone else seen it too.

Thanks,
Dennis

You want to use a sketch line.

I have had problems with auxiliary views not updating properly. If a referenced edge caused the projection angle to change, the auxiliary view did not update properly. Views defined using sketched lines constrained parallel to projection edges updated just fine.

Another advantage to using a sketched line is that you can change the projection reference just by changing the line constraint references.
