I would like to know that in the event of failure of choke valve which type of valve or equipment is usually provided as an alternative at the wellhead structure so that excess pressure does not develop into the pipeline( the one which connects the Wellhead to the Production Platforms)? This is for the production stage after the completion of the drilling stage.

In Canada, I would be inclined to use a pressure transmitter or switch to activate a separate wellhead ESDV in the event of choke valve failure. The CSA Code is written in such a way as to mean that overpressure protection systems and pressure control systems must be functionally separate such that failure of one does not compromise the integrity of the other.

I would imagine things are similar in the USA.

Regards,

SNORGY.
