I am looking for some help with the use of Aluminium Bronze valve discs in Chlorinated Swimming pool water. We are currently experiencing a build of Calcium on the valve disc. Not a corrosion issue just a build up of calcium on the valve disc. See attachment.

The values of the chlorine is 0.6ppm while, normal chlorine value for swimming pool water is 1.6ppm, tap water is normally 0 to 0.2 ppm.

Upstream the pumps and filters are stainless steel, with plastic piping.

Brayman,

I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you wanting someone to suggest a new disc material for you?

No really trying to find out if anyone has any idea on what would cause this build up.

Brayman,

I hate to do it, but I have to ask the obvious: Are you sure its calcium?

Do you have "hard" water with a lot of calcium carbonate in it?

Brayman,

I'm with VPL, its probably an accumulation of hard water deposits. If one, or both, side(s) of the valve disc is allowed to become wet, and then "air dry", so to speak, then you would expect to see this kind of build up on the disc.

You might be able to eliminate it by selecting a valve with a teflon coated disc. I doubt the minerals would be able to collect on the teflon.
