Aluminum armor is used in some military vehicle applications where weight is an important consideration, such as applique armor packages. In fact, the basic vehicle structure of the Bradley and M113 APC's is aluminum.

Is there a narrow range of alloys suitable for this application, or is there a wide range of choices?

Dawes,

I am not in the office right now, so I can't give you links to resources, but I can give you the alloy designations commonly used:

5083 (as in the Bradley and appliqué kits)
2195
2519 (Used in the AAAV prototypes and in the Space shuttle main fuel tank)

I will post the resources I have found on Monday.

What is your application?

Best regards,

Doing some research and was unable to find out what alloys were used in that type of application. I think you answered my question. Thanks.
