Hello,

I've got a major problem.
Is there a way to install DNC5 version 12 on windows 7 PC.
And yes, I have the original package incl. dongle etc. so I'm not asking for hacks/cracks
I really like the DNC5 soft for file transfer.
The nesting/programming is done with Lantek 2011, nice/decent software but it lacks a good comunication program for our 2415 Alpha III

I'm not familiar with DNC5. But I'm pretty sure the Lantek software comes with a DNC utility which should work with Windows 7.
There should be a CFG file for the DNC configuration. Should be something like this:

A000 "FANUC" ;
A001 1 ; Port(1:COM1, 2:COM2,..., n:COMn).
A002 9600 ; Baudrate (110, 150, 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600).
A003 8 ; Data bits (4, 5, 6, 7, 8).
A004 N ; Parity (N:none, E:even, O:eek:dd).
A005 1.0 ; Stop Bits (1, 1.5, 2).
A006 "" ;
A007 "CNC" ; File extension
A008 10 ; delay (ms)
A009 OFF ;
A010 "dncfanuc.ccm"
#---------------------------------------------------------------------------
B000 1 ; Flag XON/XOFF (0:OFF, 1:ON).
B001 17 ; XON (c¢digo ASCII).
B002 19 ; XOFF (c¢digo ASCII).

You may want to check with Lantek support for configuration help.
And I agree with you, the Lantek software is pretty nice.

I'm using the 32 bit version of windows 7.
With a little help I got DNC5 running again, Deskey, the dongle maker , had a new driver on their website.
So I have 2 out of 3 programs running again.
DNC5 and Cut5 are doing great, metaldesigner v12 will not run.

DNC5 was the most important one for me, but I will mis metaldesigner
It has great options for cutting text etc.
Which is one of the weak parts of the Lantek software.

You can cut any text you want with the Lantek software. It'll work with any Windows font you have installed on your computer. Just make sure you select the "vectorize" option, so that the text is converted to lines. Then you apply the "smooth" feature (also called "fitting") to convert all those little segments into smooth arcs; which will then result in nice smooth cut at your laser. They key for the smooth option is to set the tolerance small (like 0.001) so that the text doesn't get deformed.

Hi Foostrap,

I'm familiar with the vectorize and fitting options , Lantek offers.
But I have always preferred the way metaldesigner handled smoothing out arcs.

If I recall correct, setting the tolerance low? like 0.001 gave me smooth text, but the text still consists of too many small lines and arcs , resulting in a dirty cut.

I will give it a try first thing tomorrow, and I'll let you know.

Dear Dozo,

V12 is not strictly speaking Windows 7 compatible - this may be the reason why MetalDesigner will not function. What errors do you get during installation?

Have you been able to establish connection to the Alpha? Are you drip feeding; if so what cable config are you using and DNC5 settings.

Geo

Hi GeoAma,
The error , metaldesigner gives, is "Presence of terminal server has been detected, program will shut down"

I guess it's save to upload the settings file, so I attached the 2415a.trx file.
Drip feeding, everything works.

The cable configuration is just the standard Amada serial connection.

@Foostrap,
I did some comparing, and Metaldesigner gives me the highest quality text, Lantek needs lots and lots of tweaking.
The setting for large text is not the setting for small text and vice versa.
My personel favorite is MD.

Hi Dozo,

Yes the trx looks fine - if it works then I'd leave it as it is. The baud rate is a little slow; 4800. You could double it - 9600 but i doubt you'd notice a significant different.

If you do want to double the baud you need to make sure to set the corresponding machine parameter. Depeding on I/O channel in the setting's handy page (0,1,2,3) it will either be parameter 0103, 0113, 0123 or 0133. Set that parameter to 11 for Baud Rate's of 9600 and set to 10 for Baud Rates of 4800.

As for your MD problem I shall look into it.
