Hi
I've to design a reactive distillation column to produce methyl acetate with Amberlyst 15 as catalyst. In this way, I need to know some information of this ion exchange resin, mainly its packing density, porosity, surface area, apparent density, ion exchange capacity...

Anyone knows this and/or other properties of this catalyst?

Thanks.

VINXENSO:
How are you!
For Amberlyst 15 ionic resin of Rohm&Hass, I only knew a little. The little knowledge coming from some articles concerning with TAME(Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether) reaction dynamics.
The properties of Amberlyst 15 ionic exchange resin are as follows:
Positive base: H
Active base: 50
Particle size: 0.4-0.5mm
Density: 0.6(I don't know whether it is apparent or packed density)
Max. temp.: 120cdeg
Exchange capacity(meqH+/g dry catalyst): 5.0
Crosslinking level: 12 DVB wt%

At last, two advice may be helpful to you: 1.Log into website of Rohm&Hass corporation to search product specification of Amberlyst 15. 2.Contact Rohm&Hass local sales department or technical deparment for Amberlyst 15 specification. At least, while taking part in HFCS sugar project, Rohm&Hass shanghai sales representative has given me ionic exchange specification free of any charge.

hi mr vinxenso...

i also searching for amberlyst-15 properties same like you... i already write an email to rohm n haas but until now, i didn't get any reply from them.have you got it? can you share it with me? i really need it to do my design project.

thanks a lot...

This information is easy to get...just contact Rohm and Haas. They have a very complete contacts page on their site:

If you don't get service from them, I would contact Dow and ask for information regarding Dowex M31 (they may even have a newer, better product now). M31 will work just as well as Amberlyst 15.

Hi fizanie,

I've seen in a couple of papers that the shipping density of Amberlyst-15 is 750-770 g/l and the particle size distribution is:

Diameter range (mm) Mass fraction
>1.12 0.037
1.00-1.12 0.211
0.80-1.00 0.403
0.63-0.80 0.242
0.40-0.63 0.102
0.20-0.40 0.004
<0.20 0.0003

I hope this will help you.

Best regards.
