Michigan is getting another world class suspension bridge, but this one will be made using wood:

Hope they x-ray every piece of wood.

What? To kill the termites??

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

No to find defects. Then I hope they soak the whole thing in hot creosote for the termites.

I always like a new bridge and a unique one at that. but something about this just screams "waste of money" and not the least bit aesthetically pleasing. Looks like someone took a big section out of a roller coaster Just my two cents.

Also I'm guessing the cables follow the top of the arched tower profile and are then anchored. I suppose this is to avoid an otherwise monstrous connection at top of the tower. Because that is one heck of a tower and it seems that if you need a tower than long you could just anchor the cable atop the tower.

I don't normally consider myself a tree-hugger for the sake of hugging trees but I'd just as well see these trees back in the forest. Or put to other more aesthetical structures.

This looks beautiful. If it will be complete this summer I will be more than likely visit this place . . . actually a Fall visit sounds more likely.

Yes, we might visit it ourselves this summer. Depending on how my cancer treatment goes, we're planning a trip to Michigan this summer. We were there last year in July but I'm hoping to make it to my college reunion in August. Last year was my 50th, but due to the pandemic, the reunion was reduced to basically a reception and buffet dinner and so we decided not to stay the extra two weeks just to attend that shortened event (granted, the year before, it had been cancelled altogether). We had earlier family commitments during the July visit so it wasn't practical to extend the trip. Hopefully this year it will be back to its normal duration of three days with the various campus events as well as a full blown banquet. I did attend my 40th but was really looking forward to my 50th. Oh well, we'll see.

My son has been snowboarding at Mt Bohemia, which is north of Houghton-Hancock at the tip of the finger. During the fall color season they will try to have their chairlift running, so I figure that would be a good time to visit. It is an extreme hill so it is not a place that I can ski, but I figure it will be a good time to see what he has been experiencing.
I see Boyne Mountain is in the upper region of Lower Michigan, so a decent drive from Mt Bohemia, but after making that drive it may be fun to take the Lake Michigan ferry (The SS Badger) from Ludington, MI back home to Wisconsin. I see they will be running thru October, which will work good for a fall color road trip. Last year the colors were over a week later than usual so we'll see what happens in 2022.
John, I hope everything goes well with your cancer treatment. I have been hearing the word "cancer" way too often lately.

Speaking of Fall colors, this shot was taken just a few miles North of Mt Bohemia, from the top of Mount Brockway, which is near Copper Harbor:

Jerry, the only problem with the Badger is that it takes forever.
I did it once as a kid and thought that it was long and boring.
I did it again as an adult figuring that seemed bad just because I was a kid.
Nope, long and boring.
I do use Lake Express about once a year.
Usually drive to MI early in the week and then want to avoid Chicago coming home on Friday.
Expensive but smooth and fast.
