Hello, please I would like to get a documentation regarding this, I've read several work regarding base plates but most of them focus on 3D loading, axial, biaxial bending about strong and weak axis. I wish to get something centered on stress diffusion on base plates if possible. In addition I would also like an example of a column base plate model in ABAQUS.

Thanks for reading[reading]

Can you elaborate on "Stress diffusion"?

Are you looking for column base plate analysis? If yes, search- "Connection design by Component Based Finite Element Method" on slidepalyer.com You can search in Abaqus Example problem manual regarding related example.

I don't know what you mean by stress diffusion.

Expect to get about a million ksi right at the column flange tips. I tried fea of a base plate in design once and gave up pretty fast. LOL

With properly defined fully nonlinear analysis you can get very good results but preparation of such a study may require quite a significant effort.

If I understand it correctly, by "stress diffusion" you actually mean stress distribution in the base plate, right ?

Yes, @FEA way. I have to study the distribution of stress in a column base plate using ABAQUS but unfortunately I found no resource regarding this in the web. The most I could see had to do with beam to column joints.

@driftLimiter, can I apply the component method in an ABAQUS column base plate model ?

@271828 Why did you give up that fast [ponder]
