Anhydrous Ammonia piping color codes 2

I have been through ANSI to determine the piping color codes standard. A-13 basically only lists the labels. The local fire marshall states that he knows of no standard. Am I to design my own standard and submit it to the local fire marshal or is there a generally accepted piping color code scheme?

Establishing a piping color code for all your plant piping is a great safety and efficiency idea. However, there are no known pipe color codes in the USA. I can vouch for that from experience.

You should establish your own color code according to your taste and your needs. The logical way I was taught to establish the color code was to divide the various fluids into basic categories:

Chemically hazardous and poisonsous;
Flammable and Explosive;
Reactive;
Inert gas;
Fire Water;
Steam;
Cooling Water;
Instrument Air;
Process Air;
Service Air;
Specific & important Products.

The IIAR (International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration), in conjunction with ANSI, issues guidelines for identification of ammonia lines. There is a publication:
