Anisotropic material properties in a 2D axisymmetric model 2

Hello everyone

I'm trying to model a threaded connection by a 2D axisymmetric model.
I need to use anisotropic material properties for a part in this model.
Is it applicable to assign anisotropic material properties to a 2D axisymmetric model.
If yes, how this can be done?

Yes, only orthotropy with material orientation in the r-z plane and with principal direction θ is allowed for regular axisymmetric elements. However, there are also axisymmetric elements with twist in the case of which general anisotropy can be used. Then there are axisymmetric elements with asymmetric deformation in the case of which the orientation must be defined in the r-z plane like for regular axisymmetric elements but anisotropy can be used (however, material properties must be axisymmetric and it's up to the user to make sure that fully anisotropic material doesn't violate the symmetry condition).

Given that we have orthotropic material properties in x y z directions, how can we enter them in an axisymmetric model with elements that include twist(eg. CGAX4) ?

Also how can we test and check wether the material properties are properly entered and the model is working correctly?

You have to create a material with an anisotropic elasticity definition and assign it (via a section) to the part. Then assign a material orientation to the part (there are different methods to define it). You can always check the orientation using Tools --> Query --> Material orientations. But to check if the material works as expected, you would have to carry out some simple tests (possibly single-element tests) with different loading patterns.
