Hi

Anyone know about design to AD 2000? What does this code require for design of vessel supports and nozzle loads?

We have project with a horizontal vessel supported at the ends. The designer has not provided calculations to AD 2000 with the local stresses at the point of support. They are indicating there is no method for this in AD 2000!

Thanks R6155

Because I am external to the design process on this project I do not have access to the code. What design method (Calculation, FEA etc) does AD 2000 S3/2 apply for checking supports and nozzle loads. (in this case the vessel is being supported by the end nozzles, see sketch)

You should contact a pressure vessel engineer. Google is not a way.

Sorry

This project has pressure vessel engineers, none seen to know how to do the above calculations to AD 2000. ASME would be no problem.

Well, try ASME.
Your information is close to zero. If the pressure vessel engineer you mentioned cannot solve this case, you should contact a more experienced one.

If the weight is supported entirely by the nozzles you should use AD2000 S3/& which handles nozzles with additional loads.
This standard references WRC 107 and 297 for estimating stresses. Allowables can be determined with aD2000 S3/0.

As for the stresses in the vessel itself. Those are mainly through bending. I don't think there is specific calculation method mentioned for your situation. So I would use beam theory to determine maximum bending stress and compare it to allowables acc.to AD2000 S 3/0

If there are also other factors like wind and earthquake it gets a bit more complicated.

An alternative would be to do an FEA of the vessel with the provisions of AD2000 S4.
