Hello,

I’m trying to learn creep analysis in Ansys, and am currently working on deriving creep constants, specifically C1, C2, and C3 for the Norton Power Law.

I understand that the equation is usually shown in 2 ways:

epsdot = A * (sigma^n) * (t^m)

or

epsdot = A * (sigma^n) * exp(-Q/RT)

Which form does Ansys use? I can’t seem to find an answer in any of the manuals or anywhere online.

For example, I know solid works uses the first form, where C1 is A, C2 is n, and C3 is m.

Thanks

The t^m term is a time hardening term for primary creep. The Arrhenius rate function defines temperature dependence. You can use either of these or both in concert in Ansys, as they account for different things. You can also use strain hardening, which is more often than not more representative than time hardening (see for example Finnie and Heller pg 117 and Marriott and Penny pg 30-37).
