hi

i am doing a static stress analysis of a component. when i plot vonmises stress contour it shows SMX as 26000 and when i list nodes for the node having max stress (vonmises) it shows max stress value as 17000.
Where is the value 26000 coming from if no node have this value.
Also when contour plot is displayed the window show vonmises stress with AVG written with it. what is this average ?

i was analyzing a bolted flange. i don't want to model bolts, what i want to know is how i apply Boundary conditions to simulate bolts.
Also i ran a simulation of this bolted flange the calculated stresses in nodal and element solution in stress intensity is near (40000 and 30000), is this difference ok ? or how i improve my model? There was no meshing errors in my model and i used total hex mesh (using sweep mesh).
Kindly answer

Nodel and element results should be in the same range, maybe a difference of 5%. If there is a big difference between these results it could also be a singularity.
Pretension of a bolt came be analysed by following the procedure of the prets179 element.

FEA results can be shown as averaged or maximum stress across nodes or elements. If there is a significant difference between averaged and maximum stress then this is an indication that your mesh is too coarse and needs refinement. There should be no significant difference in results no matter how you choose to display the results if you have a good model. If there is nothing wrong with the mesh then it may be down to your boundary conditions.
