Dear All
I'm trying to perform an exercise like the attachment to calculate forces and moments on the welding seams to use them after for hand calculation of the welding seams.
My questions are:
1) Is necessary to model the welding seam with 3d cad programme?
2) Have you ever done this type of analysis?

Thanks in advance
Merka

Dear

1) No this isn't necessary you could also get the force reactions and moment from the interface(Contact). These forces could give an indication. Because these forces should be transferred through the weld.
2) Yes, more often I use the R1MS approach for calculating welding. Google this name and you will find enough info on this.

There are many ways of calculating a weld in ANSYS, Google the name Hobbacher, this will help you.
grtz
