Anti surge protection: Check valve at compressor discharge

Hello everybody,
I work on the anti surge protection of a gas centrifugal compressor, where an addionnal check valve is installed directy at the compressor discharge, upstream the recycle loop. (There is also a second check valve dowstream the recycle loop as a typical anti surge configuration).
On my mind it is not a good idea to add a check valve between the compressor discharge and the recycle loop because in case of surge, the check valve will close and avoid an efficient and quick response of the anti surge system. I have already experienced this phenomenon.
What do you think? Could you share your experience?
Thank you

If you are not happy with the typical in pierreich's diagram, provide your diagram for comment.

Einstein gave the same test to students every year. When asked why he would do something like that, "Because the answers had changed."

This check valve is not an antisurge protection device - it merely prevents backflow in to the compressor casing (and consequent reverse rotor rotation) from the volume of HP gas held up between this check valve and the check valve d/s the recycle line takeoff. Which is why this is a high integrity damped check valve.
