Antifreeze loop- RPZ backflow required or double check ok?

I've been installing RPZ devices on antifreeze loops for years and I understand the principles of cross connection prevention. We service a "problem child" system that has an antifreeze system above the ceiling in a lobby of high traffic business. The RPZ is just inches above the grid and there is scant room for the spit cup; it ends up ruining a ceiling tile a couple times a year. The device also failed it's recent annual test and the owner wants to replace it instead of repairing it (again).
I've been reading and looking but I can't find the language that specifies a reduced pressure zone or air break in the backflow preventer. It would make my life much easier if I could just put a regular double check assembly in there.

Your question is should be directed to the plumbing official. My understanding of NFPA 13 is it does not require backflow prevention-it's requirements are for the proper installation of a BFP when it's required, including required pipe and fittings for testing, isolation, as well as pressure loss in calculations.

Stookey is dead on. NFPA does not require backflow preventers. Your local water purveyor is who will/will not require the backflow preventer. If one is req'd, NFPA 13 tells you what you need to do. If one is not req'd, you have the option for that as well.
