Any reference in ASME about minimum thickness of pipe for impact test

Dear,

Could you have any refernece for ASME stainless steel pipes about minimum thickness requirement for impact test.

One EPC asked us to do the impact test for 304L welded pipes with size 219*3.76 and 323*4.57.

I check the specification of Shell, Total and DNV, Norsok M630, it specified that the pipe thickness below 6mm is no need to do the impact test.
But I didnot fimd any this kind of information in ASME standard.

It depends on the design code. Is this for B31.3, VIII-1, or some other code?

And in most cases 304 would be exempt from impact test.

Dimensions of Charpy impact specimen (full size or subsize) are the same for all codes.

(OP) mentions “thickness” twice and three times in numbers: 3,76 mm, 4,57 mm and 6 mm. Does not mention temperature.

In ASME VIII div 1 UHA-51 minimum thickness is not mentioned for austenitic chromium nickel SS (304L)
Then the thickness is the minimum thickness of Charpy impact test specimen: 2,5 mm
Charpy impact test is not required for thickness less than 2,5 mm

There is no blanket exemption for thicknesses less than 6mm. There are many exemptions listed in the Code of Construction, be it B31.3, Sec. VIII Div. 1, etc....especially for stainless steel. One of which is that impact tests are not required when the maximum specimen you can achieve has a width along the notch of less than 2.5mm.
But exemotion below 6mm is not universal. High pressure piping per B31.3 for example may require impact testing of thin stainless material.
