I have been researching the effect of stress concentrations on the ultimate strength of a cross section and I have not been able to find an electronic copy of the following documents.

NACA-TN-1830 "Tension properties of aluminium alloys in the prescence of stress raisers"

and

NACA-TN-1974 "Effect of open circular holes on tensile strength and elongation of sheet specimens of some aluminium alloys"

They are not available from the NACA technical report server.

Is there another URL to use?

FYI my current understanding is:

The effect of stress concentrations varies depending on material ductility in two ways (1) ductile materials show strengthing as plastic flow eliminates the initial stress concentration (2) non ductile materials show weakening due to non uniform stresses and strains at the notched region. (Ref NACA-TN-2433 Page 10). Thus you need to know if your material is strengthed or weakended by notches when considering failure.

Thanks in advance.

Though I haven't come across these reports, either, I have found that if you write to NASA (links on the bottom of their pages) you can purchase many other reports. Apparently the ones on the NTRS are only the FREE ones.
