Dear All

API 1104, Section 5.4.2.2

I have a PQR qualified with API 1104 FOR
18'' X 12.7MM X60 API 5L PIPE. P-No. 1 and G-No. 2 and welding process is SMAW

Can I formulate a WPS from this PQR for
24'' X 15.8MM X65 SCH80, API 5L PIPE. P-No 1 and G-No. 2 and the welding process is SMAW?

My thought is, since they have the same P & G number then same parameters hold. But I need help if am right.

Thanks All

Hi chitessy

P numbers and Group number have no bearing in API 1104 WPS qualification; materials are classified based upon Specified Minimum Yield Strength (SMYS).

X60 and X65 are in different material yield groupings as indicated in API 1104, clause 5.4.2.2.

Accordingly, you cannot use an X60 PQR to develope an X65 WPS.

Your only possible option would be if the X60 is a dual grade X60/X65, as indicated on the MTR.

SectionIX (Petroleum), Many thanks for the clarification.
