Hey everyone,

Grammar question here for interpreting codes...

API-570 paragraph 8.2.8(d) - associated with closure welds:
d) MT or PT shall be performed on the root pass and the completed weld for butt welds and on the completed weld for fillet welds.

Question: for socket weld closure welds, allowed per para 8.2.8(b)(2), do I need to perform MT or PT on the root pass?

Thank you,
Marty

No, but you should left a gap of 1 or 1,5 mm for dilatation

No root pass in fillet weld.
MT or PT in the finished fillet weld.
