API 5L vs CSA Z245.1 for DWTT

API 5L references API 5L3 for details on DWTT of large diameter pipe. Does CSA have a document similar to API 5L3? It seems to me I remember CSA also referring to the API 5L3 document. Am I remembering that correctly?

Yes, you are correct. The CSA Z662 standard, which governs oil and gas pipeline systems in Canada, includes references to various testing methods for materials, including fracture toughness and drop-weight tear testing (DWTT). While CSA does not have a document that is entirely equivalent to API 5L3, it often aligns with or refers to API 5L3 for specific methodologies, especially when dealing with large-diameter pipe testing.

If you’re working within the scope of both standards, it’s advisable to cross-reference the requirements in CSA Z245.1 (Steel Pipe) and CSA Z662 for material specifications and testing methods. These documents may indirectly guide the use of API 5L3 methods for DWTT in cases where applicable.
