API 650 - PQR IMPACT TESTS REQUIREMENTS

Hello all,

I got an issue regarding the construction of API 650 tank with 60 mm thickness shell plates and 15C design metal temperature.
the inspector ask to perform the PQR for SMAW welding process with impact tests , im my opnion there is no reson to perform impact test becuse of the design metal temperature.
please advise.

I think you need to investigate further.
I only have the 2007 edition of API 650 so my comments may no longer be correct.
Clause 4.2.9.1 requires impact testing of plates greater than 40 mm thickness so Clause 9 should be followed for PQR impact tests if required.
What is the material you are using ?

Do you mean 60mm or 6mm?
Regardless, refer to the latest API-650 and see what the requirement is.
