API Gurus!

I'm having a little trouble interpreting API 6A and the reference to other end connectors (OECs).

Section 10.18 specifies that OEC's shall be designed in accordance with sections 4.3.3 & 4.3.4
Looking in detail at these sections - there is no specific mention made of elastomer seals.

My interpretation of the specification is that seals to atmosphere should be by RTJ or tapered thread?

Does an acme connector with elastomer o-rings meet the 6A specification?

I know that gate valve stem packings are elastomer...

Cheers!

Yes an acme connector with an elastomer seal meets the requirements. Unless 6A specifically says you can't do something it's fair game. On the other hand, local regulations or best practices might impose other requirements. In the next edition of 6A they will include a top connector just as you describe in the non-mandatory appendices.
