Dear Expert,
Do you think that this seal piping will work?

Well it's not ideal! I assume that is a thermocouple to measure temperature. The picture is not ideal it would have been good to see the cooler and other piping. Basically it looks like you are stuck with that so I would recommend to ensure the heat exchanger has I high point vent and make sure that you vent the system properly. Once you start up, check the temperatures and monitor for a few days. Not knowing the duty we cannot indicate settle out temperatures.
Is there a scroll type pumping ring in the seal?

Plan 23 is normally for a single seal but you have it on the primary seal. That is not a scroll pumping ring! That looks like a paddle type. What is the piping plan on the secondary seal? Plan 52? What is the oring materials? Viton!

I would have taken a different approach to what you have.

How is the cooler mounted - horizontally or vertically? If it's vertically mounted, then both the supply and return could be easily vented at their highest point. If it's a horizontal mount, then you really have to make sure you blow down both sides of the circuit (and that you have the valving in place to do so), or else you have the potential for getting vapor pockets in the loop. Plan 23's are best suited for hot water applications in my opinion; I have seen too many instances where process plan 23's lead to issues with coolers plugging, etc. That said, some do have success with them and swear by them. You will need to do whatever you can to maximize the circulation out of that inner pumping ring to be sure you are meeting the cooling and lubrication requirements of the inboard seal.

It is not unheard of to have a Plan 23 primary with a Plan 52 or 53 secondary. We have several of those. I am more concerned about the piping. We would require our Plan 23's to use 3/4" tubing with long radius bends and no 90 degree elbows. Any flow restrictions will reduce circulation and reduce the effectiveness. The piping shown in the picture looks very poor in this regard. I would not accept it.

@flexibox this is a plan 23 + 52 arrangement.O-ring material is perfluoroelastomer.@bk19702 cooler is vertically mounted.@ flexibox i am now requesting the pump/seal vendor for the actual performance curve of the pumping ring as per api 682 requirements and the hydraulic calculation/system resistance. This is to check that the system will work both even during idle (thermosyphon flow).

Perflouroelastomer is what a lot of seal vendors put on the drawing for Viton. Remember, the o-ring materials must be compatible with process fluid and barrier fluid.

Did you spec hard/flanged pipe for the cooling? Toss it and use tubing, then fix the spec. No pump vendor in their right mind would do that without it being a customer requirement.

Perfluoroelastomer is not Viton. If you see Fluorocarbon, or FKM associated with the o-rings, that is referring to Viton.

You are right, perfluoroelastomer is not Viton, but fluoroelastomer is, that is what I was thinking.

Dear All,
Thanks for your valuable comments. I have already consulted the seal piping to the seal vendor and will check thru FEAP evaluation for the cooler and will provide estimated flow rate with the resistance of 3/4" piping and 8 elbows. The reason to recheck is because the seal vendor supply the mechanical seal and seal support systems except pipe/fittings. I'll give you feedback once i got the result. cheers...
