API valve trim numbers

From what I've been able to discern, it appears that the API series of valve trim numbers are defined in API 600 and 602. Are there any other sources that define the trim number? The reason I ask is that we were recently supplied with a 3/4" CL 2500 check valve, trim 16. API 600 is only for gate valves and API 602 only covers up to CL 1500 so this valve is outside the scope of both of these standards. I realize that the trim number just indicates what material is used for the various trim components, but the questions becomes a little stickier when you consider that the charts in each of the standards for alternative trim numbers are different.

Can I extend the trim definitions from API 600 and 602 to the valve in question or is there a different standard that covers this valve?

Table 3 in API Standard 594 (for two types of check valves) is probably not of much use, since it does not list Trim 16. In your situation, I believe you have 316 SS and Stellite. You could probably extrapolate from API 600 or 602 but the best option is to get the data from the valve manufacturer.
 
The API trim charts are one more of the many normalization tools that API issues for the industry. As SNORGY says, your norm is covered by API 594, but in other cases, you could always refer to a non-standardized trim as "similar to API 600 Trim ??" and you industry colleagues would understand!

My focus is on valve stockists in the us and us who supply duplex and super duplex valves, and inconel and hastelloy valves, plus titanium, alloy 20 and 904L valves.
 
API 600 trim table has been used in the downstream industry for the trim numbers and applied to more than just gate vales. This is the case with globe and some check valves. It is not uncommon to see API 600 specified for a globe valve for trim number and wall thickness since as of this moment API does not have a globe valve specification.

API 594 "Check Valves: Wafer, wafer- Lug, and Double Flanged Type" does cover class 2500 but only goes down to 2" in size

Chances are you valve was constructed per ASME B16.34.

API is close to publishing the API 623 Globe valve standard. Inside of API 623 there will be trim table.
