I will be looking to commission a geo investigation on a medium project in the Uk and wandered if there is some governing body or Association that I can contact for a list of Companies. My previous employer had their own in-house geo department so I have no experience to go off.

If you contact the AGS [Association of Geotechnical Specialists],(you can do an internet search for their website), you should be able to get a list of their members, however it is one of those where you have to pay them to be listed, so it doesn't cover all the companies out there, the company I work for for one!
Where abouts in the UK is the project, this may help in tracking down a suitable company, and what is the proposed scope of works. If you need some more info, please contact me directly, or go to our website at although it does need some serious up-dating at the moment

Great, found the site. It has listed at least one company my collegue has used.

This site is in Barnsley. We have a great deal of desk top info already as this site has alot of history being in a mined area. It's a new project for us on an existing college and I am still to get my teeth into it. Any new Geo investigation will be on a small scale and taylored around the existing info. There's some research for me to do yet before I can tender this element.

The engineering section to my company is relatively new. Working nationally I hope to establish regional relationships with companies including Geo investigators.

Thanks for the reply.
