I am trying to use ARC flash Analysis using ETAP 7.0 , but ETAP has limitation that the source Protective device shall be with in 20 bus from the faulted bus. Can we do the study if the Protective Device is away about 50 bus.
Can we apply arc flash analysis for the distribution overhead lines ? Please suggest

Not knowing anything about ETAP, or your system. But the worst case would be at your protection. Then simplify your system to run the study at descrete points.

How in the world do you have 50 buses between the fault and the protective device?

Are you modeling every pole on a long distribution line as a bus?

I believe NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) Article 410 covers arc flash for overhead lines. IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70E covers equipment (enclosed??) up to 15kV. You may want to check with ETAP.

There are some other differences such as the overhead lines considers L-G fault currents vs. 3 phase as in IEEE 1584 and so on.
