Hello Community

I am a Masters student. As a part of my master thesis, I am working on simulating the wear happening in an Engine gasket using the Archards equation. I am trying to develop a UMESHMOTION subroutine script to simulate the wear in an Engine Gasket. From this Engineering Forum site, I came across a UMESHMOTION script. I have run this script, and it is able to show the material removal due to wear.

The problem now is that the wear depth calculated on every node in every increment is not summed up until the last increment. Ideally, I would want the wear depth integrated after every increment so that I can see the total wear depth in the last increment.
I am very new to Fortran scripting and tried many ways to solve my problem but unable to do so. I have attached the subroutine to this thread below.
Please advice me some ways to solve this problem.

Thank you for taking the time to read this thread.

Regards
Govind

Perhaps instead of struggling with the UMESHMOTION Fortran subroutine, which is quite complex, you could use the ready-made Python script available for download from the Dassault Systemes Knowledge Base article "Modeling Archards Wear in SIMULIA Abaqus". Give it a try.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I have looked at the Dassault Systemes Knowlege base, but I could not find the python script that you were mentioning, can you share the link to the site if possible??

Thank you in advance

Some Knowledge Base articles are available only for users with customer accounts. If you search for this title or just "Archards wear" and can’t see this article then it’s likely the case. Of course, you must first log into the proper account.

Thanks again for the reply. I can see the Tread wear simulation example when I type "Modeling Archards Wear in SIMULIA Abaqus". But I could not find any python script attached there, there is a Fortran script but no python script.

If anybody have come across "Dassault Systemes Knowledge Base article "Modeling Archards Wear in SIMULIA Abaqus" " python script for wear simulation that FEA way is mentioning to, please do reply back to this post as it can be helpful for me.

Regards

The tread wear example with Fortran file (UMESHMOTION subroutine) is part of the Abaqus documentation. It may also appear in the Knowledge Base but it's not what you are looking for in this case. Apparently, the article that I've mentioned is not available for you because you don't have a DS account with customer privileges.

Okay, that might be the case,
I will check with people who have an account then.

Thank you for your quick responses.
