Hi, I have been searching everywhere and cannot figure out if elevator machine rooms are required by any code(IBC, ASME, etc..) Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Yes, you better have an elevator machine room as you don't want your controllers, sheaves, cables, flyball governors etc... be in the open to expose the public to these potential hazards and have some schizophrenic nuts tinker with the equipment. Also get a copy of the American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators, Dumbwaiters, Escalators and Moving Walks ANSI A17.1 published by ASME.

Oh! by the way, there is a section in the code mentioned above about the machinery room.

Oh! by the way, you may want to checkout the National Fire Codes such as, I think, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code,as I have not used that code for the last 20 years.

thanks for your help!
