In the Drafting Application, we creat a number of cross sections. We need to have the area of each cross section.

Is there something obvious I'm missing. My work around has been to go back into Modeling and split the part with a plane at the appropriate location and then did an Analysis-Area of Face. An UNDO restores the model.

It would be nice if the area in Drafting (assuming someone knows how to get it) could be associative and would update as the model is changed.

Presently we are using V18 on a Win2000 operating system.

To solve your problem try 1 of 2 methods while in the Drafting App:

1. Analysis > Area Using Curves > Boundary Temporary > Face > (Expand the Appropriate View) Select the Face > Select OK 3 Times accepting the Tolerance of .001 > Select Perimeter/Area from the Dialog

2. Preferences > View Display > Select the View of Crossection > Toggle on Extracted Edges > Apply > Update View.
Expand the View > Analysis > Area Using Curves > Boundary Temporary > Select the 2D Extracted curves > Accept the Tolerance > Select Perimeter/Area

The Extracted Edges from Method 2 are Associative back to the Model.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips.

The was no joy on Method 1. I was unable to select any of the sectioned faces.

Method 2 works and although there are more steps to it, I appreciate that associativity is maintained.

Once again, thank you for your participation on this forum.
