I'm trying to learn more about how our armature vendor builds the armatures they supply us. The armatures are 1 hp universal motor type. It looks like they use a slit commutator for wire attachment (not tanged). From what little I've seen on the web, tang type commutators are used more these days because it's easier for the winding machines to hook around the tang. So, for slit commutators, is it a manual labor operation to get the wires into the slits?
