Arrangement & Loading of Components 1

Here's the situation (NX7.5):
- An assembly was saved with a user arrangement in use.
- in that arrangement, a component prototype and all its occurences are suppressed.

Question: why is the suppressed component still being loaded when opening the assembly with the user arrangement as the active one?

Thanks.

Just a guess,...
If that suppressed component wouldn't be loaded, the "unsuppress" when changing arrangement would not work,
- I guess that "unsuppress" doesn't load files.
But, yes, I too would like the suppressed parts to be unloaded, it would/ could speed up loading in some cases.

Regards, Tomas

You need to understand that an Arrangement is NOT like a Reference Set in that it does NOT control what gets loaded, but rather only captures the positional and suppression STATUS of a designated set of Components. Think of the Arrangement as a sort of 'overlay' or 'template' applied to a generic set of Components which were loaded based on other rules or criteria.

If you wish a Component to NOT be 'open' (i.e. loaded) you will need to explicitly 'Close' it. And when you working in the Assembly, simply 'Close' all the Components that you would like to not see when you initially load your assembly and then save 'Bookmark'. Then even if you 'Open' and 'Close' other component and then Save your assembly, to see it opened with only the 'loaded' components the next time you want to work on the Assembly simply open the Bookmark INSTEAD of the Part file. That way, Components that are 'Closed' will still be 'Closed' (and thus unloaded), Components suppressed will still be suppressed and those which are hidden will still be hidden.

Check what your load preferences are set to and I think John nailed important points on this. Your load behavior depends on those preferences and remember, to check, site and local user preferences as well.

Having the suppressed components within an arrangement not loading would definitly make it very convenient and fast to load large assemblies drawings without carrying about checking if bookmark exists or having to coock with the load options.

BTW, I thought Reference Sets were not to be used with components...

Thanks anyway.

I never said that Reference Sets should be used, I was just making a point that an Arrangement is simply a 'template' and does not actually control what gets loaded but rather only how Components will 'appear'. And before you ask, there are NO plans to change this behavior.
