Hi everyone:
I am designing a steel framed structure in STAAD. it is a basic frame consisting of four steel columns and wind bracing with a steel plate platform, to support an air exchanger unit.
I would like to apply wind to the structure but the structure has no walls. What value should I use for wind exposure?
Based on my understanding if the structure was fully enclosed by walls I would use an Exposure value of 1.0. If there were windows and doors, I would use a value less than 1.0, say 0.9. What value should I use for a fully open structure? Should it be more like 0.1?
Also, instead of using wind from four directions I will only use wind in transverse and longitudinal directions. Is this ok?
Lastly, what structure type should I select, Chimneys and other structures? This is not a building, so that looks like the most appropriate one. I am using STAAD Pro V8i, ASCE7-10.
Would be very grateful for clarification. Especially on the wind exposure value.

Thank you.

Regards,
AOAW
