Could someone point me in the direction of the ASD equivalent of the "LRFD specification for Steel Hollow Sections"? I've found some general info in the AISC Manual of Steel Construction (ASD, 9th Ed.) regarding tublar sections, but need additional information concerning web crippling in areas of concentrated loads for rectangular sections.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

AISC has an entire new manual devoted to Hollow Structural Shapes.

The "Black Book" has everything you'll need for HSS connection design.

Ack! I guess I need to read more carefully. My apologies!

The HSS Connections Manual (1997) contains the OLD "AISC Specification for the Design of Steel Hollow Structural Sections" and is a supplement to the LRFD manual. It has no provisions for ASD (but you already knew that :) ). I don't know if AISC has published a new Black Book to go with the 2000 LRFD spec. I don't think so. Either way it's not ASD.

The 9thASD/1stLRDF Connections Manual doesn't have anything for tubes either.

Did you find a resource that details HSS Tube connections in accordance with ASD? I am searching for the same reference. Thanks

jrepese,

I saw your post while seeking the same. I found this link:

It is the AISC website, which has an updated (and superceding) LRFD &&& ASD HSS guide. There are three pdf downloadable files. The first is the 256 pages of the manual. The third file is a handy set of tables. The third table within the file has ASD formulae for HSS bending, shear & compression.

Get the new Specification that's a free download. HSS information has all been moved into this Spec and the 1997 black HSS Manual is now old. The new Spec has ASD and LRFD.

The upcoming Manual will also have info from the HSS Manual built-in.

There will not be continued support for the HSS Manual.
