ASME B31.3 Nameplate or marking requirements

I generally do design to Section VIII where there are specific nameplate requirements that go on each vessel.

Now I have a small job to do with simple spool piece per 31.3. And, I am having a hard time finding any requirements for marking the spool to indicate its design temperature and pressure.

Is there such requirements for 31.3? How is traceablity for such spool pieces established?

Design temperature and pressure are normally defined on the drawing.
 
XL83NL, thanks for the link, traceabilty is clear now.

I guess then my question now becomes more centered around pressure / temperature deigns for a specific spool piece. How does a user of this spool know what the original design temp and pressures were if there is no marking on the product that either indicates the design conditions, or refers back to a drawing or other specification?

This has has come up where customers want rather thin walled pipe with ASME B16.5 600# or higher flanges for one reason or another. It could be misleading having such heavy flanges on thin pipe, as the strength of the spool is now pipe limited, with no indication of such a condition.

Doesn't this question come down to maintaining adequate piping drawings and an up-to-date set of "piping line specifications" ?

If the specific piping system code is defined on PID/piping drawings and if a set of "piping line specifications" has been retained for this installation, then the question would not come up.

Maximum operating and testing temperatures and pressures for a particular piping system code should be defined in the line specs...

Oh, wait..... is this another older plant where a previous owner has discarded all plant documents ??????

 
Adding more information than required is not prohibid then you can add pres at temp min temp at pre@.
 
@MJCRONIN. This is a situation where I am working for a manufacturer of specific equipment that will be installed in a B31.3 pipeline. The equipment comprises a pipe with flanges (spool) and various brackets (non penetrating the pipe wall) or nozzles (penetrations). The overall length is usually a couple of feet maximum.

@GenB we decided to serialize the equipment and maintain the design docs available whenever requested and also to supply the design specifications to the customer with the typical doc package that accompanies the equipment.
